A Vessel for Art

Kiyoaki Takeda

A project has begun to install artworks around the school routes for schoolchildren attending Tsuneishi’s school in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
Situated between the sea and the hills, this area features many winding, narrow roads and rugged terrain, leaving scattered plots of land where construction is difficult and which have thus remained unused. The project aims to create a school route where local residents can enjoy artworks as part of their daily lives, while also utilizing these roadside spaces.
Our role was to design the landscape that connects the surrounding environment with the artworks. We designed the foundations for the artworks and carried out landscaping to ensure they blend into the town’s scenery while spreading and expressing the message of each artwork across the entire site.
We carefully selected local soil, stones, and plants as materials. We hope that the connection between the extraordinary world of art and the everyday townscape will become an unforgettable, formative landscape for all the elementary schoolchildren in the future.

アートのひみつ!

Artworks have arrived in our familiar, everyday place. Each artwork has a special bond with the location through the landscape designed for it. Take a look, have a walk, and you’ll become part of the landscape. Enjoy the scenery on your way to school.
